Are you an active member,
…the kind that would be missed?
Or are you just contented,
…that your name is on the list?
Do you attend the meetings,
…and mingle with the flock?
Or do you stay at home,
…and criticize and knock?
Do you ever visit a member who is sick?
…or leave the work to just a few
…and talk about a clique?
There’s quite a program scheduled
…that you’ve heard about…
And we’ll appreciate
…if you’ll come out and help out.
So come to the meetings often
…and help with hands and heart.
Don’t just be a member…
…dig in and do your part.
Think this over friend…
…you know the right from wrong.
Are you an active member?
…or do you “just belong?”
This poetic inspirational piece is from The Canao of 25 September 1965. Its message endures up to present time, as it reminds us that we cannot remain as “non-performing assets” of RCBaguio. Author is unknown.
If you are curious about my sustained penchant for “resurrecting” items from historical issues of The Canao, my answer is simple. I want to drive home the point that we have a lot to learn from our Rotary forebears; and that (as I always say) we have a rich and glorious past that we must continually be proud of.
Thank you, Rtn. Angie for sharing your super-old issues of The Canao.
